Ilene Vogelstein

INDEPENDENT EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANT

Ilene Vogelstein is recognized as an authority on early childhood Jewish education and issues that impact this constituency. Ilene's goal is to assist early childhood programs, religious schools, and communities in developing programs that attract young families and encourage families to continue Jewish learning and living.

Ilene has extensive professional and volunteer experience in Jewish education. She served as the Director of Education for the Baltimore Federation and was the President of the Board of Jewish Education. For the past 15 years her efforts have focused on early childhood Jewish education. Ilene was the Coordinator of the Mechinah program at her synagogue where she developed an award-winning Bible curriculum for kindergarten children and their families. She was the Director of Machon L'Morim, one of the first school change professional development program for Jewish preschools. Ilene conducted the first survey on the state of Jewish preschools in America and commissioned a study to determine the impact of Jewish preschools on families. She established the Early Childhood Department at CAJE and is currently the Facilitator of the Alliance for Jewish Early Education, a national organization for professionals holding local, national, and international positions in early childhood Jewish education. Ilene also taught undergraduate- and graduate-level courses at Baltimore Hebrew University and Hebrew College in child development, infant toddler care, and building partnerships between schools and families. Ilene holds a Masters degree in Speech/Language Pathology and a Masters Degree in Organizational Development.

Ilene is the author of several publications including Untapped Potential: The Status of Jewish Early Childhood Education in America (2002) and Early Childhood Jewish Education "If Not Now, When?" (2008) and is a co-author of "Early Childhood Jewish Education" in The International Handbook of Jewish Education.
